President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb visited Kyiv from 11 to 12 September 2025.

President Stubb held bilateral talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday 11 September. The discussions focused in particular on the peace process and cooperation between Finland and Ukraine.

“Finland’s political support and the Finnish people’s support for Ukraine is strong. To date, we have provided Ukraine with EUR 3.8 billion in support. Of that, EUR 2.8 billion has been allocated for defence equipment. However, this is not a one-way street, but genuine cooperation that strengthens the whole of Europe,” President Stubb said.

The presidents also discussed Russian drones shot down in Polish airspace on Wednesday.

“The impact of Russia’s actions extends beyond Europe. We witnessed this first-hand on Wednesday, when Russian drones violated Poland’s territorial integrity in a way we have not seen before during Russia’s war of aggression. Poland, together with its allies, acted swiftly and decisively. We support Poland. This incident yet again proves the enormous importance of strong preparedness and support from allies,” President Stubb said.

“Ukraine is ready for peace, Russia is not. Russia’s attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine and the events in Poland show that Russia is not achieving its goals in Ukraine, but is still trying to find new ways to influence Ukrainian and other European societies. Russia has once again made a huge miscalculation: it has underestimated the will and unity of the West,” the president said.

During his visit to Kyiv, President Stubb laid a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance for those who have fallen for Ukraine and met with war veterans. He also addressed an international summit on the role of education in promoting peace, which was hosted by Olena Zelenska, spouse of the President of Ukraine. President Stubb’s spouse, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, also participated in the summit. Later in the day, the president met with students at the National University of Kyiv.

“Live by your values and promote them. You are the ones who will build the future. When I return to Ukraine next year, I hope that peace has been achieved and that Ukraine has won,” the president said.

President Stubb last visited Ukraine in February 2025.
