President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb paid a visit to Kyiv on Tuesday 24 February 2026. The visit shows Finland’s strong and continuous support for Ukraine in a situation where it has been fighting Russia’s illegal war of aggression for four years.

“What is our message to Ukraine and Ukrainians? Putin is not winning this war. But at the same time, Putin is unable to build peace. Why? Because Ukraine is in a much better position than it was a year ago”, said President Stubb i Kyiv. “The invasion has become a strategic failure for Putin and Russia. Against this background, you can quite reasonably say that Ukraine is certainly not losing the war.

During the visit, President Stubb attended a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8). President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended both meetings. The meetings addressed, among other things, the state of the peace negotiations and their next steps, as well as Finland’s and Europe’s support for Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, the foreign visitors had taken part in a moment of prayer at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, together with President Zelenskyy. Later, they paid tribute to Ukraine’s fallen defenders by placing candles at the Memorial of National Remembrance at Maidan Square.

The guests also visited the CHP‑4 power plant in Kyiv, which has been damaged by Russian missile strikes during the winter. The CHP-4 provides heat and electricity to the residents of Kyiv as well as to over a hundred schools and healthcare facilities.

Also present in Kyiv were Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Iceland Kristrún Frostadóttir, Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council António Costa.

Following their meeting, the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic states issued a joint statement together with President Zelenskyy. In the statement, the countries underline that a just and lasting peace is achieved through strength, and that security arrangements are needed to guarantee it. Europe must show leadership and secure its place in future negotiations together with Ukraine.

President Stubb last visited Ukraine in September 2025.
