President Stubb meets with Truth and Reconciliation Commission Concerning the Sámi People

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb met with the members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Concerning the Sámi People at the Presidential Palace on Friday 28 November 2025. 

At the meeting, the Commission presented the key findings and recommendations of its work.  

The Finnish .Government appointed the Commission in October 2021, and it will submit its final report in December to the Government, the Sámi Parliament, and the Skolt Village Assembly.

The task of the truth and reconciliation process has been to identify and assess historical and current discrimination against the Sámi, including the state’s assimilation policies and violations of rights. The Commission also makes proposals to promote connections between the Sámi people and the Finnish state, as well as among the Sámi people.
