President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb attended a meeting on peace in Ukraine on Monday 18 August 2025 in Washington, D.C. The meeting was hosted by US President Donald Trump.
President Stubb said that three concrete steps forward were taken at the meeting. These concern security guarantees, the upcoming meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia, and a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. “A lot of work has been done with Ukraine and our allies. But there is still a lot of work ahead,” President Stubb said.
“Our influence is limited, we are a small country. At the same time, we are the only country around the table in addition to Ukraine, with a border with Russia. Our point of view has relevance.”
In addition to President Trump, President Zelenskyy, and President Stubb, the meeting at the White House was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
