President Stubb visits Turku
President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb made a visit to Turku on Thursday 14 August 2025.
The visit began at Pääskyvuoren koulu elementary school, where President Stubb was welcomed by pupils and staff. After a presentation about the school, each class was given the opportunity to ask the President a question. The questions mainly concerned the President’s work. The pupils were also interested in learning about the President’s reading habits and sporting activities.
The program then continued at the Market Square in Turku, where the President was interviewed in front of an audience and met Turku residents. I’ve had a great time here. And all in all, it has been a fantastic summer,” the President said.
In the interview, President Stubb noted that also a small country like Finland has interests and values, but that our power is ultimately limited. “Our goal is therefore to maximize our influence. That is really the essence of diplomacy,” he said.
The day ended with a visit to the pharmaceutical company Bayer, whose new production facility in Turku is one of the company’s most important factories in the world. During a tour of the factory, the President also heard about the innovations the company has developed in Finland.
