President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb attended the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on 21–23 January 2025. President Stubb’s programme included discussions and bilateral meetings.
The President took part in panel discussions on European security, geopolitics and conflicts, and the future of Ukraine.
“We are living in a new era where the rule-based system is under threat. The World Economic Forum provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges we are currently facing. I leave Davos with optimism,” President Stubb said.
During the meeting, President Stubb met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Israel Isaac Herzog, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus, President of Peru Dina Boluarte, Iran’s Vice-President for Strategic Affairs Javad Zarif, Federal Chancellor of Austria Alexander Schallenberg and Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković. In addition to bilateral relations, the discussions covered the relationship between Europe and the United States, the security situation in Europe, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
The meeting brought together nearly 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries. Among the participants were 60 heads of state and government and other political decision-makers, business leaders, researchers, representatives of organisations and economic and cultural influencers.
Finland was also represented at the meeting by Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio.
