President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb will pay a state visit to Luxembourg on 29–30 September at the invitation of Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie.
The visit will focus on bilateral relations and commercial and economic cooperation between Finland and Luxembourg as well as global challenges, comprehensive security, strengthening Europe, and Russia’s illegal war of aggression in Ukraine.
The Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess will receive the presidential couple at the Grand Ducal Palace. President Stubb and Mrs Innes-Stubb will later lay a wreath at Luxembourg’s National Monument of Solidarity.
The programme for the President’s visit will include meetings with President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Wiseler, Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel.
In the afternoon, the presidential couple, the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess will visit Luxembourg City Hall and meet with Mayor Lydie Polfer. President Stubb will also visit the European Investment Bank and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Kirchberg.
The day will conclude with a state banquet hosted by the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess in honour of the state visit.
On Wednesday 30 September, the programme will continue with a visit to the University of Luxembourg, where President Stubb will give a speech on values, interests and power in the age of strategic competition. Afterwards, the president will take questions from students.
The visit will also encompass the Luxembourg Learning Centre, an introduction to the university’s research and innovation activities and meetings with students and representatives from local quantum, data and satellite technology businesses.
This will be followed by a working lunch at Bourglinster Castle. After lunch, President Stubb and Prime Minister Frieden will hold a joint press conference.
The state visit will conclude with a visit to global space solutions company SES Satellite.
In addition to the joint programme, Mrs Innes-Stubb and Grand Duchess Stéphanie are set to visit the National Museum and National Library of Luxembourg as well as the National Centre for Victims of Violence.
The President’s delegation for the state visit will include Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg paid a state visit to Finland in 2016. The previous state visit to Luxembourg was undertaken by President Tarja Halonen and her spouse Dr Pentti Arajärvi in 2008.
