Dear Expatriate Finns,
We are celebrating Finland’s Independence Day at a time of global unrest. Crises, conflicts and threats to biodiversity affect our daily lives, no matter where we live. However, despite all this uncertainty, there is no need to despair. We have all the keys to success – as a nation and as individuals – when we trust ourselves and each other.
Finland and its people are renowned for being reliable, stable and responsible. During my visits to other countries this year, I have seen that there is a demand for Finnish expertise. We have cutting-edge knowledge in areas such as network and quantum technologies, satellites, and mining and minerals.
As Finns living abroad, you have a unique opportunity to act as ambassadors for Finland across the world. Every story, encounter and action brings Finland closer to the rest of the world – and the world closer to Finland.
Finnish identity lives on in each of your life stories. Your experiences, insights and courage to venture onto international paths enrich us all.
I wish all of you Finns living abroad and people of Finnish heritage around the world a very happy and peaceful Independence Day.
Alexander Stubb
President of the Republic of Finland
