In his capacity of Supreme Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb promoted cadets graduating from the National Defence University to the rank of Lieutenant on Friday 29 August 2025 at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.

“Finland’s voice is currently heard at international tables, partly because we have credible defence forces. Our defence capabilities are widely recognised,” said President Stubb in his address to the graduates of the Bachelor of Military Science programme.

“We do not provoke, nor are we provoked. But it is clear that we need strong defence capabilities to ensure lasting peace. In the coming decades, you will be the foundation and guardians of our defence,” the president said.

“This is a significant moment for all of you. Your expertise and commitment will be the backbone of Finland’s defence in the future. Keep your head cool and your heart warm.”

“I wish you all the best and every success in your future duties in the service of our country,” President Stubb concluded.
