President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb, accompanied by his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb, paid a state visit to the Netherlands from 11 to 12 December 2025. The aim of the visit was to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Finland and the Netherlands focusing on shared priorities such as comprehensive security, the energy and maritime industries, and support for Ukraine.
On Thursday 11 December, President Stubb and Mrs Innes-Stubb were welcomed by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at an official ceremony on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
In the afternoon, President Stubb delivered a lecture on multilateral cooperation and the transformation of world politics at the University of Amsterdam, followed by a question-and-answer session with students. Among the topics addressed in their questions were the peace plan for Ukraine, hybrid warfare, and relations with the United States.
Later in the afternoon, the Presidential couple and the Royal couple visited the Amsterdam Drone Laboratory to learn about drone technology.
Afterwards, a business forum at the National Maritime Museum brought together Dutch companies and 20 Finnish firms specialising in comprehensive security. The Finnish companies formed part of the President’s state visit delegation.
In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hosted a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
In his speech, the President if the Republic emphasised that the Finns and the Dutch share the same mindset and values. As well as a respect for a multilateral, rules-based order and free trade. “Finland and the Netherlands have always been natural partners. It is no wonder that the Netherlands is often called the sixth Nordic country.“
“Both Finland and the Netherlands are among the strongest supporters of Ukraine, politically and financially. Together, we are working with Ukraine and the United States, within the EU and NATO, as well as in the Coalition of the Willing, to achieve the best possible end to the war,” said President Stubb.
On Friday morning, 12 December, the state visit continued in The Hague, where the President and the King visited the NATO Communications and Information Agency.
At the Dutch Parliament, President Stubb met the President of the Senate and the President of the House of Representatives. He then held talks with Prime Minister Dick Schoof at Duivenvoorde Castle on current security issues in Europe, Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, and continud support for Ukraine.
Afterwards, the President and the Prime Minister were joined for lunch by King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Mrs Innes-Stubb.
Following lunch, President Stubb visited Clingendael – the Netherlands Institute for International Relations – for a discussion with experts, and later the International Criminal Court.
In addition to the joint programme of the Presidential couple, Mrs Innes-Stubb and Queen Máxima attended an event focused on combating violence against women. Later in the afternoon, Mrs Innes-Stubb enjoyed a guided tour of the Mauritshuis Art Museum.
During the state visit, President Stubb was accompanied by Minister of Justice Leena Meri, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio and a business delegation with representatives from Neste, Gasgrid, Fortum, P2X Solutions, ABB Finland, Solnet, Thermal Storage Finland, Hycamite, Aeromon, Nokia, Patria, Hiab, Insta, Bittium, Reaktor, KT-Shelter, Sensofusion, ICEYE, Marine Alutec and VTT.
