On Monday 17 August 2026, the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb visited the autonomous region of Åland.
“Maintaining close cooperation and dialogue with Åland is vitally important, and our annual discussions provide an excellent opportunity to stay up to date on current issues,” said the President.
On their most recent visit, the presidential couple travelled to Vårdö, where they were welcomed by senior representatives of the Åland authorities and the municipality of Vårdö.

The visit began at Strömsgården, the Vårdö municipality’s sheltered housing facility, where the President and his spouse met with some of the residents.
The programme then continued next door at the Solbacken nursery, where the children had lots of questions for the visitors.
During his visit, President Stubb met with Åland’s elected representatives and received an update on current developments in the region. Also present were Mats Löfström, Member of the Finnish Parliament representing Åland, and Premier Katrin Sjögren, head of the Government of Åland. In addition to current affairs, the discussions covered Åland’s potential as a tourist destination.
The visit concluded with a public event, where the presidential couple met with local residents of Vårdö. At the beginning of the event, President Stubb was interviewed by Sigrid Abrahamsson.
The presidential visit drew a large crowd to Vårdö School.
