President Stubb in Ostrobothnia: “It’s always good to be back to the roots of my family”

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb visited Vaasa and Vörå on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

The day began at Campus Norrvalla with a meeting with schoolchildren and students from Vörå municipal schools. The event also featured a performance by KAJ, the Finland-Swedish band from Vörå, representing Sweden in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Next on the agenda was a public meeting with local people at Vörå town hall.

In the afternoon, the visit continued at the University of Vaasa. President Stubb was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Vaasa in September 2024, and he now received the honour. Following the ceremony, President Stubb delivered a lecture on the emerging world order.

“I would like to thank the University of Vaasa for bestowing upon me an honorary doctorate degree. I do appreciate it dearly,” said President Stubb.

The day concluded with a visit to Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa, and an introduction to the hub’s activities, research and product development.

“Wärtsilä is a strong player in the region and well known in the global market. The energy industry cluster in Vaasa is a great example of how a region can build expertise and growth around a specific sector,” said President Stubb.
