Joint Commitment by European Allies and Canada to take greater responsibility for maritime security in the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea and the Arctic (på engelska)

Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have reinforced their commitment to take greater maritime responsibility for deterrence and defence in the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea and the Arctic Ocean.

In recognition of the increasingly challenging security environment, this is a demonstration of our willingness and capability to deter and defend against the long-term threat posed by Russia.

Our nations already field modern maritime capabilities and platforms, and have plans to significantly increase these capabilities over the next decade, positioning us as a collective force for high-end maritime operations. Together, we will enhance training, exercises and operations for full spectrum maritime operations in the Euro-Atlantic region. We also commit to strengthening maritime command-and-control and prioritize investments to enhance our situational awareness in all domains. We will also increase our focus on innovation to deliver relevant maritime capabilities and effects.

European Allies and Canada are both willing and capable to ensure a fair share of the burden, while further strengthening the unity and cohesion of NATO. This commitment demonstrates a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO with Europe and Canada taking greater responsibility for our shared Euro-Atlantic security, coordinating closely with the United States.
